Hot Chicks With Big Brains Magazine Issue 7

Hot Chicks with Big Brains began a few years ago as an interview series documenting the experiences of women at work. It was quite specific – interrogating the overlap between their employment and their sense of self.

We have since broadened our horizons. Our magazine (now at Issue #7) will always retain a focus on interviews and conversations between women (and other gender diverse folk!), but now also includes essays, memoir, think-pieces, photography, fashion, and visual art. The core of what we do still remains strong. We challenge the way women are pigeonholed and speak with women about work: blue collar, white collar, no collar, studded collar, work within the home, and the self-employed. We also interrogate the way we feel about ourselves as women, the way we look, and the way are expected to appear to the world.

The wage gap + the pink tax. The agism of the advertising industry + the fact that older women are the most steadily increasing demographic of homeless people in Australia. Rising rates of eating disorders in young women + rising rates of sexual assault on campus. These things are all connected, and by examining the overlap in the Venn diagram, of women as beings of both form and function, we start to get to the bottom of things.
